  • How to use PuTTY to access TrueNas Scale

When administering TrueNas Scale, you will sometimes need to connect from a shell interface, and PuTTY« has to be at the top of the list of interfaces to use.

Simple instructions on setting this up.
  1. Open TrueNas Scale
    Click [System]
    Next, choose [Services]
    Choose [SSH] and click the [Running] to a blue check.
  2. Download PuTTY« Install, and then run
  3. Under: [Session]
    [Host Name (or IP Address)]: 192.168.5.2 - [Port]: 22
    Saved Sessions: (Give it a name) TrueNas
    • [To customize the Title Bar name] of the Console Window.
    • From the ◀ left navigation
      Select [Windows] / [Behaviour]
      [Windows title:]
      example: [192.168.5.2 - TrueNas - Putty]
  4. Click Save.
    Click Open
  5. You should now have a window [Putty Security Alert] (Choose [Yes]),
    Or you may only see a prompt for your TrueNAS Scale [Credentials].
    After typing in your Username and Password, you should now have your prompt to administer your TrueNAS Scale system from Putty.
